THE NEW CLIMATE DENIALISM: A WAR ON REALITY — AND WHO IT’S REALLY TARGETING

A decade ago, the world’s governments signed a historic climate pact and declared that the era of denial was over. Ten years later? Denialism isn’t just back — it’s been reborn, mechanized, algorithmically optimized, and supercharged with AI.

And it’s winning.

While diplomats held their latest climate summit — and carefully avoided even uttering the words “fossil fuels” — the forces they refuse to confront were busy saturating the world with a nonstop firehose of misinformation. This is no accident. It’s not organic skepticism. It’s not some grassroots “common-sense revolt.”

It is a decades-long, industrial-scale disinformation machine, perfected by political strategists, fossil fuel interests, and tech platforms that long ago decided outrage profits matter more than planetary survival.

And let’s stop pretending this machine targets everyone equally.

It preys on the poor.
It preys on the sick.
It preys on those denied education.
It preys on the exhausted, the atomized, the abandoned.

The people who’ve been lied to, misled, miseducated, and misinformed the longest are the ones now being fed back weaponized narratives engineered to keep them voting against their own future.

THE PLAYBOOK: HOW DISINFORMATION TOOK POWER AGAIN

Today’s climate denial isn’t the old-school “the Earth isn’t warming” nonsense. That died. Nobody credible believes that anymore. So the strategy evolved.

The new denialism says:

  • Climate change is real… but it’s not serious.

  • It’s serious… but humans didn’t cause it.

  • Humans caused it… but solutions are too expensive.

  • Solutions exist… but clean energy is a scam, a fraud, a cult, a fear plot.

  • You shouldn’t worry… because YOU are the real victim of those “elitist alarmists.”

And the algorithm pushes this message with surgical precision — dressing denialism up as “rational,” “tough,” “masculine,” and “common sense.” Meanwhile, those fighting for climate action are painted as emotional, “panicked,” “unhinged,” “hysterical,” or “feminized.”

This isn’t accidental framing. It’s propaganda designed to manipulate identity, not facts.

Because identity beats evidence every time — especially when education systems are gutted, inequality skyrockets, and half the population is one medical bill away from collapse.

When life is unstable, lies feel safer than truth.

THE TRUTH NO ONE AT THE SUMMIT WOULD SAY

Behind the diplomatic language and the empty declarations, here’s the reality:

We’re losing the information war because the other side is fighting it as a war.

They’re organized.
They’re funded.
They’re relentless.

They show up at global summits with more lobbyists than some continents can afford delegates.

And the platforms distributing their message? They’ve stopped even pretending to stop them.
Fact-checking? Gone.
Content moderation? Rolled back.
Algorithms? Tuned to maximize rage, confusion, and doubt.

Click, click, click.
Profit, profit, profit.
Collapse, collapse, collapse.

Meanwhile, millions of people — overworked, underpaid, and overwhelmed — scroll through an online environment designed to deceive them. They’re not “stupid.” They’re not “crazy.” They’re outmatched.

The people falling for lies aren’t the villains. They’re the casualties.

THE MOST DANGEROUS LIE OF ALL

The modern denial machine’s biggest victory is convincing people that:

“Fossil fuels are here to stay.”

That’s not realism.
That’s not economic wisdom.
That is pure, weaponized fatalism.

A future where fossil fuels “stay” is a future of:

  • Failed harvests

  • Mass migration

  • Collapsed insurance markets

  • Coastal abandonment

  • Water scarcity

  • Infrastructure failure

  • Energy blackouts

  • Civil unrest

Fossil fuels staying doesn’t mean stability — it means destabilization of everything.

But the disinformation machine tells struggling people the opposite: that any change threatens them.

Decarbonization becomes “elitist.”
Clean energy becomes “a scam.”
Wind turbines become “bird-killing death machines.”
Electric vehicles become “a conspiracy to emasculate you.”

When people are desperate, frightened, uninformed, or isolated, they cling to the narratives that tell them they are the underdog hero resisting some imaginary tyrant.

And the machine knows it.

THE AI ACCELERATION: THE FINAL FRONT

Ten years ago, disinformation was mostly human-made. Now it’s AI-amplified, AI-cloned, AI-scaled.

False climate narratives can be generated in seconds, repeated infinitely, micro-targeted to the exact demographic most likely to believe them.

“Clean energy will destroy your freedom.”
“Climate scientists are lying.”
“Solar and wind are scams.”
“Fires, floods, heatwaves — all coincidences.”

AI doesn’t care about truth.
AI cares about engagement.
And lies engage.

We’ve now automated our own downfall.

SO WHO IS FALLING FOR IT? LET’S BE HONEST.

Not everyone. Not randomly. Not equally.

It is overwhelmingly:

  • People never taught critical media literacy.

  • People failed by unequal school systems.

  • People working two jobs with no time to verify facts.

  • People struggling with chronic illness, medical debt, or disability.

  • People whose lives have been economically hollowed out.

  • People trapped in algorithmic echo chambers.

  • People who’ve been told since childhood that institutions cannot be trusted.

When society abandons people, they become prey.

And the predators are well-funded.

THE HARDEST TRUTH

The world isn’t losing climate progress because facts are unclear.

We’re losing because someone out there realized that fear, anger, confusion, and cultural identity are more powerful than science — and they built an empire on it.

Every climate summit ends the same way:

Big speeches.
Tiny commitments.
Zero accountability.
And thousands of professional disinformers walking away victorious.

Meanwhile, ordinary people — misled, misinformed, manipulated — are convinced the scientists are lying and the billionaires are “just being realistic.”

That’s not an accident.

That’s the strategy.

THE ONLY WAY OUT

If we don’t fight the disinformation machine with the same intensity it fights reality, we’re done.

If we don’t rebuild trust, education, and community — done.
If we don’t regulate platforms designed to amplify lies — done.
If we don’t shield vulnerable populations from predatory propaganda — done.

Because the greatest climate threat on Earth right now isn’t carbon.
It’s confusion.

And confusion is winning.

yours truly,
