“The future is already here — it’s just not evenly distributed.”
— William Gibson
It fits because AI’s so-called revolution isn’t lifting everyone—it’s concentrating power in fewer hands.
AI is already reshaping jobs, but not yet productivity
The AI Productivity Boom That Never Came – And Why the UBI Fantasy Is a Scam
They keep selling us the same dream. Every tech boom, every hype cycle, every promise of a “new industrial revolution” comes with a holy scripture: This time it’s different. This time it will change everything for the better. Spoiler alert: it never does.
The latest chapter of this eternal fairy tale? Artificial Intelligence will create so much wealth that we’ll all live like kings without working.
And to make that fantasy sound even sweeter, the prophets of Silicon Valley – Elon Musk and Sam Altman – have thrown in the Universal Basic Income (UBI) gospel.
Yes, you heard that right: the two men who unleashed the most disruptive AI models on Earth, who built ChatGPT and Grok, now tell us, with the straight face of a Wall Street preacher, that UBI is “inevitable.”
Their reasoning: AI will kill so many jobs that society must provide every citizen with a paycheck, no questions asked.
And who will fund this utopia?
The AI revolution itself, of course! The “massive productivity gains” that AI will supposedly deliver will create mountains of wealth, they say, and that wealth can be redistributed as a safety net.
Sounds cute, right?
Too bad it’s a myth wrapped in a lie, sprinkled with Silicon Valley fairy dust.
The Same Old Song: Tech Will Save Us (Until It Doesn’t)
We’ve heard this before. In the 1980s, economists predicted a productivity explosion from computers. Remember that?
Personal computers were going to liberate us from drudgery and usher in a golden age of leisure and creativity. The reality?
Corporate IT budgets ballooned, Microsoft minted billionaires, and workers still clocked 50-hour weeks.
The productivity miracle? It never showed up.
Fast forward to the 2010s: “Social media will democratize information!” they said.
Facebook was going to bring you customers and empower small businesses. Instagram would turn your creativity into income.
Instead, we got a world overrun by propaganda machines, scam artists, and data-mining empires that sell your soul to the highest bidder.
And now, AI is the latest savior.
Chatbots will run your business!
Machine learning will cure cancer!
Automation will end poverty!
Oh, and don’t forget – we’ll have that UBI check in the mail every month so you can finally write that novel or learn the guitar.
Wake up. History says otherwise. These tools don’t empower the masses; they empower the people who build and own them.
And those people? They are not your friends.
The Productivity Boom That Isn’t
Here’s the inconvenient truth: there is zero hard evidence that AI is making the economy more productive.
None. Zilch. Nada.
A brand-new MIT study just delivered a gut punch to the hype: 95% of AI pilot programs in corporations had no measurable effect on revenue or profit.
That’s right – all those glowing headlines about AI revolutionizing industry? It’s smoke and mirrors.
Meanwhile, the tech bros keep dangling the same carrot:
“Just wait. It’s coming. Any day now.”
We’ve been waiting for decades. The steam engine changed everything. The assembly line changed everything.
Information technology? Not so much.
And AI? So far, it’s mostly generating bad poetry and deepfakes of politicians.
The UBI Lie
Even if AI did create oceans of wealth, would it trickle down to you? Please.
We live in an era where billionaires fly to space for fun while workers can’t afford rent.
The idea that Silicon Valley would willingly redistribute their AI riches is laughable.
But the bigger problem? UBI doesn’t solve the real issue. People need more than money.
They need purpose.
They need social connection.
They need work—not just for income, but for identity, structure, dignity.
Strip that away and you don’t get a society of poets and inventors.
You get a society of addicts, shut-ins, and rage-filled populists.
And guess what? The elites know this.
They’ve read the history books.
They know what happens when millions of bored, broke, disconnected people decide they’ve had enough.
Who Wins in This Game?
Not you. Not me. The winners are the same as always:
✔ The scammers. AI makes fraud easier than ever.
✔ The propagandists. Deepfakes and disinformation factories are already outpacing truth.
✔ The grifters and gangsters. From crypto clowns to venture-capital vultures, the AI gold rush is their playground.
Everyone else? Left holding the bag.
What Do We Do About It?
Keep your shirt on and be prepared.
Don’t swallow every shiny promise.
Don’t build your life on hype.
And for the love of everything, teach your children how to think critically. Tell them the truth: technology is not a magic bullet. It’s a tool—and tools can build or destroy.
Be careful who you trust. Pick your sources carefully.
Question everything—especially the people who claim they’re saving the world.
Because if history teaches us anything, it’s this: the louder someone shouts about a revolution, the more they’re planning to cash in while you pick up the pieces.
💡 Final Thought: The real future isn’t UBI or an AI-powered paradise. It’s what we make of the mess when the hype dies and the bill comes due. Don’t just survive it. Outsmart it.
